History of Belgium
Belgium  was once known as "the Belgium area" and was first settled by immigrants from Luxembourg, Europe on the Wisconsin Ethnic Settlement Trail Route.  Residents still celebrate this heritage annually.  Along the countryside of the village, you will find two dozen stone homes that were built between 1850 and 1880.  Other historic buildings can be found such as St. Mary's Catholic Church, built in 1846, and Luxembourg parishes at Holy Cross and Dacada, built in 1846.  By the turn of the century, limestone was being quarried and the town was made up of company homes.  The remains of the pier where the ships loaded can be viewed from Harrington Beach State Park and there is now a lake where the quarry once was.  Today, many travelers from Europe visit Belgium  to enjoy the history, quiet beauty and genealogy of the area.
